Visitors are welcome at Huye Isange Rehabilitation Center and play an important role in supporting the recovery and well-being of patients. To ensure a safe, therapeutic, and respectful environment, all visitors are encouraged to follow the center’s visitation guidelines and schedules.

Patients’ Rights and Responsibilities

A. Patients’ Rights

1. Right to Respect and Dignity

  • You have the right to be treated with respect and to have your personal views, religious beliefs, and cultural values respected by all healthcare workers.
  • You have the right to be free from discrimination, harassment, or any risk to your personal safety.

2. Right to Advocacy

  • You have the right to advocacy for social reintegration after achieving recovery.
  • You have the right to advocacy for the continuation of your education, academic pursuits, or professional career, as deemed appropriate by a doctor.
  • You have the right to advocacy for care and support from family members or benefactors when necessary.

3. Right to Privacy

  • You have the right to be consulted in a private space, free from being seen or overheard by others.
  • You have the right to have all information regarding your medical condition kept confidential within the limits of the law.

4. Right to Confidentiality

  • You have the right to have your medical records securely maintained and protected.
  • You have the right to confidentiality regarding your personal, family, medical, and other private information.

5. Safety and Security

  • You have the right to receive safe and quality healthcare services.
  • You have the right to protection from adverse events or errors occurring within the healthcare setting.

6. Right to Choose

  • You have the right to participate in decisions regarding your care, treatment, and support, and to provide informed consent.
  • You have the right to seek a second opinion.
  • You have the right to choose whether to participate in research programs.

7. Right to Information

  • You have the right to know who is treating you and their qualifications.
  • You have the right to receive truthful information about your condition, diagnosis, prognosis, treatment options, associated risks, and alternatives.
  • You have the right to know the names of prescribed medications, their intended effects, and possible side effects.
  • You have the right to receive information in a language that you understand.

8. Right to Complain

  • You have the right to raise concerns or complaints regarding any aspect of your care and treatment without fear of retaliation.
  • You have the right to receive prompt action on your complaints and feedback on the measures taken.

9. Right to Refuse Treatment

  • You have the right to refuse any care, treatment, or medication and to be informed of the consequences of such refusal.

10. Right to Pain Management

  • Every patient admitted to the hospital has the right to be protected from pain while receiving care.

11. Right to Care

  • You have the right to receive care when you need it.
  • You have the right to access the highest quality care available, including preventive, curative, promotive, and rehabilitative services.
  • You have the right to continuity of care, including referral services when necessary.

B. Patients’ Responsibilities

  • You are responsible for taking care of your own health.
  • You are responsible for accessing and using the healthcare system appropriately and not abusing it.
  • You are responsible for respecting the rights of healthcare providers and other patients.
  • You are responsible for providing healthcare providers with accurate and relevant information regarding your health condition.
  • You are responsible for following instructions and adhering to prescribed treatment.
  • You are responsible for ensuring that you have the means to pay for services provided.

Due to the mental health status of some patients, patient rights and responsibilities may be exercised or assumed by a family member, next of kin, or the person accompanying the patient, as appropriate.
